my new favourite city? pretty close. great food, great bars, great art, great architecture, BAD ICY COLD WEATHER. but the 1st 4 cancel out the last. so, basically, perfect.

HOWEVER, a word of caution: do not buy disposable cameras at walgreens. because "800 ISO" is apparently code for half your photos won't come out and the ones that do will be shadowed and blurry. so i am left with none.

but i DO have this

and i don't think there's really anything else to say, except: eat at schwa (amazing tasting menu set to blaring hip hop and enjoyed amog chefs who will do shots with you all night long), and puebla restaurant and taqueria near logan square (best mexican i've ever eaten in spite of having all the charm and ambience of a decrepid community centre gym decorated for a cinco de mayo dance circa 1983).

it's here. usually i don't give a shit about new years eve and i end up having the worst time of my life, but this one was more than passable.

whoa! i have not posted anything of worth in a long, long time. life has been busy and weird but good. i spent most of august in mexico and paris (pics to come, if i ever hit up the photo shop), then came home to move into an apartment for september 1st that was --SURPRISE-- infested with roaches and rats, which meant we then moved all our shit out of there and into storage, and now myself and roommate/best lady jas spend our days/nights sleeping in my parents basement, watching too much wheel of fortune and tlc, and trying to work out who gets to sleep on the big couch which nights of the week. life is hard, i know.

in spite of this rickdickness, things are looking up. we found a new, and LEGIT apartment, to be moved in to october 1st, i'm heading off for montreal at the end of the month with pals, will hopefully be visiting my lovely friend rachel in halifax at the end of october/beginning of november, and i've just begun the last year of my neverending BA. so, moral of life is: stick it out. because calm comes after the storm.

also, i am going to see this lady's amazing work at the AGO tomorrow, and her shit it enough to make me wanna pull through lyfe till at least tomorrow evening. dang.

near the end of grade 8, everyone in my class was given a sheet of paper with each students' name listed on it, and it was our duty to write a positive comment about each person in the space beside their name. our english half-day teacher (i was in french immersion the other half of the day, and that teacher was for some reason not involved) compiled the results and gave each of us a list of our best qualities as a gift for elementary school graduation. now that i'm officially unemployed, i've decided to spend my free time re-arranging and re-organizing my apartment, and i've come across this list in the process after years of being totally forgotten. turns out grade 8 candice was pretty fucking cool.

i want to get out of toronto. like, hop a bus and end up in some small fucking town i can't pronounce the name of and work as a diner waitress on weekends and spend my weekdays walking fields and reading and playing guitar and writing stories and just living like a legitimate person and not a robot. i'll stay in some old dude's spare bedroom and the rent will be cheap because i'll do his chores and tend to his lawn in return for a more than generous discount. he'll be a simple man, not asking for much at all. he'll just really want someone around to ease loneliness and make the floorboards creak. because it's a reassuring sound, y'know? that's kind of why i miss living at my parents' house. the sound of the turn-of-the-century floorboards, and being able to realize who was walking where in the house based on the subtle nuances of the squeaks. i live in a tiled basement now. it's not the same.

since i live in real life and not the idyllic fantasy-land mentioned above, i'll probably just go to iceland for a week once school is done for the year and i've saved up some cash. wander around alone, just me and my brain, and think myself to death.
